| The National Responsible Gambling Programme grew out of in-house programmes operated by various South African casinos and is now under aegis of the SA Responsible Gambling Trust, which reports to the SA Advisory Council on Responsible Gambling (SAACREG). |
| The NRGP is a public/private sector initiative, overseen by the SA Responsible Gambling Trust, comprising an equal number of representatives from government and industry. |
The body comprises four regulators, four industry representatives and an independent chairperson, Dr Vincent Maphai. The deputy chairperson is Mr Chris Fismer, chairman of South Africa’s National Gambling Board and former chairman of the IAGR until 2003.
The NRGP also reports to a committee of its funders in Responsible Gambling
South Africa (RGSA), and there is a high degree of transparency in terms
of financial management and regular reportage on the activities of the
programme.
Professor
