Various training courses have been developed to suit southern Africa's human resources environment - and to comply with the standards and requirements of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
There are special courses for various sectors of the gambling industry and government:
- casino industry: Train the trainer workshops and seminars for HR personnel, selected management and supervisors, and trainers
- horse racing industry: bookmakers and totes
- limited payout machine(s) (LPM) industry: route operators and site staff
- provisional regulators - the various gambling boards throughout the country
In addition, courses have been devised in response to demand among key audiences such as:
- medical doctors, psychologists, etc
- religious leaders and lay people
- the welfare industry, including social and health care workers
Loren Human
Loren Human probably knows more about what goes in the heads of teenage gamblers than anyone else in South Africa. In addition to being responsible for training casino staff members, she facilitates psycho-educational workshops on gambling addiction in primary and high schools and conducts ongoing research into the prevalence and attitudes towards gambling among teenagers.
She brings an impressive range of skills and training to the job. She has a BSc (Honours) in psychology) from Unisa and is a SAQA-accredited assessor and skills development facilitator. She worked as a medical sales representative for GlaxoSmithKline before joining the NRGP as a counsellor and facilitator on the schools programme in 2001. She was appointed training director in July 2002 and promoted to operations and training manager in 2005.
